Let us start by telling us about your business.

Kenny Flowers is an upscale, tropical clothing and lifestyle brand putting a fresh spin on Hawaiian shirts, resort looks, and men and women’s swimwear. Founded in 2015, Kenny Flowers is all about embracing the feeling of vacation, every day.

Q: Please tell us how you make sure your customers will become raving fans of your company?

We care about our customers and champion them every day. To be honest, we’re raving fans of our customers and I believe that leads to them being big fans of the brand. Whenever we see our customers rocking Kenny Flowers out in the wild, we get so genuinely excited and we share this with our community, for others to see through social channels, email campaigns, etc.

This doesn’t just happen blindly though. We specifically design and create fun, high-quality apparel that starts a conversation and adds a memorable pop to any scenario from a zoom call to a honeymoon. We focus on setting our customers up to thrive and live their best lives and, as a result, we’re fortunate to be a part of their most memorable moments and special occasions. It’s an amazing win-win scenario where we love highlighting our customers when they’re having a good time, and as a result, they share the good word about Kenny Flowers.

Q: Please tell us the one thing that separates your business from the competition?

Our attention to detail separates us from the competition. From our hand cut pattern matching, to our coconut buttons (never plastic) to our original hidden sunglass loop to keep your shades in place, we put a ton of care into every single product we bring to the world. That attention to detail is carried through to all aspects of our business, and truly does differentiate Kenny Flowers from those cutting corners and costs.

Q: And to finish this section, please tell us what the one major key to your company’s success is?

Our company success to date is due to us being authentic at the core, and being a natural extension and example of the brand myself. I was always the guy wearing my dad’s Hawaiian shirts, purposely avoiding learning how to tie a tie. If I started a tie company, it would lack that authenticity that others can relate to. Kenny Flowers is about living life unbuttoned, and finding your way to be a better, happier person every day.

Q: For our readers just starting to build a company, what advice can you give entrepreneurs just starting out with a new venture?

I’ve always felt that as an early stage entrepreneur, it’s important that you’re able to run two businesses at once: the day-to-day operation and the one you’re working to build. Time flies when you’re busy and running a business you love, but if you’re not planned out with a vision you’re working toward, then you can find yourself running in circles. It’s important to be able to take care of the critical tasks in front of you – fulfilling orders, helping customers, posting on social media, maintaining the site, etc. – but also finding ways to helicopter up and make sure you’re advancing your business.

Q: For entrepreneurs seeking to build a business as successful as yours, what big piece of advice can you give them when times get a little challenging?

My goal is for Kenny Flowers to be a lifestyle brand that spans generations and lives on past my own life. It’s my business goal and a personal dream that I believe in so deeply that I can’t imagine a world without it. It’s this deep, underlying confidence and belief in what I’m building that helps me get through challenging times and find a way, even when my back is up against a wall. If you’re an entrepreneur seeking to build a business, you have to not only be fully committed to it, but you have to fully believe in it too and have that gritty confidence that your business can make it through challenging times.

Q: In today’s fast changing business environment, how do you stay abreast of things?

This year has taught me a couple things. One, flexibility. Two, listen to your customers. You’re running a business. They’re demanding a product and they know what they need / want. The best ideas come from them – new product lines, even just marketing tones and verbiage.

Q: What is your “Why”? In one sentence, why do you get up in the morning?

I get up in the morning because I know that what I’m doing can help others live better lives. Now more than ever, it's important that we embrace the feeling of vacation and bring more fun and positivity into our everyday life – that's what Kenny Flowers is all about.

Q: In one sentence, what is the most important thing one has to do to be a great leader?

I believe that great leaders create an environment for others to succeed – from their employees, to their customers – and there is no “title” for a great leader, they can come from anywhere.

Q: In one sentence, describe how important your customers are to your business?

Without customers, you don’t have a business. Customers are the most exciting part of a business and serving them what they want is what gives me purpose every day.

Q: In one sentence, describe a positive way that technology can make the world a better place?

We can take bigger chances and risks without losing touch with others.

Q: In one sentence, tell us how something positive to motivate our readers?

My favorite quote: “Success isn’t about comparing yourself to others. It’s about comparing yourself to your past self and seeing improvement.” To succeed, you need to be confident in yourself and focused on what’s important. This allows for both of those things.

Q: In one sentence, tell us how you start your day to get ready?

Before I go to sleep the night before, I outline the 3 main things that need to get done right away so when I wake up, I have a clear idea what to focus on and I can get straight to it before other things pop up.

Q: In one sentence, describe how you handle rejection and setback?

I take it in stride, not personally, and realize that if I let it get to me, it will hold me back and be more of a setback.

Q: In one sentence, describe what your hiring philosophy is?

I’m extremely particular when it comes to hiring but I need to know the passion and dedication is there, that I genuinely enjoy working with you, and that I can see you thriving as a part of the Kenny Flowers family.

Q: In one sentence, describe how you keep your sanity in a competitive business environment?

I try to be a racehorse with blinders on – focused on what I can do to continue growing Kenny Flowers and minimizing distractions that can ruin days, months, years of productivity.
