I believed that the fashion industry needed to transition into a more sustainable business model and I wanted to lead by example. I had a vision to create a company built upon the pillars of sustainability. Our mission was to ‘create from waste’, utilising as many materials as possible that already existed, helping to divert them from ending up in a landfill or clogging up our oceans. So, in our collections you will find products made from plastic bottles, fishing nets, textile waste and yarn discards. If we can’t source recycled materials, then we look to natural fibres that are biodegradable. The result is a range of gender-neutral wardrobe staples, that are kind on the planet. By focusing on durability and longevity, we design products for life, not just a season. Sustainability is a long and challenging journey, but we’re fully committed to doing business the right way, not the easy way, and we have lots of exciting ideas for the coming year and beyond.

Q: Please tell us how you make sure your customers will become raving fans of your company?

I feel you become a fan of the brand once you have felt the quality of our products which can be worn in a variety of ways whilst also learning more and more about our ethos and brand values. We take every piece of feedback from our loyal customer base very seriously and with this we are forever improving our products.

Q: Please tell us the one thing that separates your business from the competition?

We offer a lifetime guarantee. Every product has an impact on the environment. It’s our responsibility to minimise this impact by creating durable and versatile pieces that can stand the test of time. And if it doesn’t last a lifetime, we will take it back to recycle and put back into our system to ensure that, in some way, shape or form, the piece will last forever.

Q: And to finish this section, Please tell us what is the one major key to your company’s success?

Through extensive research and development, we are dedicated to sourcing the most innovative and sustainable materials in the market. By partnering with leaders in sustainability, we are all able to combine our knowledge and skills, helping each other to collectively move towards a sustainable future. Through working with ethical partners and mills who are equally committed to doing things the right way, we can ensure both our company’s success and the achievement of our company mission.

Q: For our readers just starting to build a company, what advice can you give entrepreneurs just starting out with a new venture?

Be sure there is a market for the product or service you are starting, and make sure you know who your competitors are. By doing these two things, you can ensure that your service has some weight in the industry and that you can carve out a space for your products in an ever-evolving business environment.

Q: For entrepreneurs seeking to build a business as successful as yours, what big piece of advice can you give them when times get a little challenging?

Keep pushing through those tough days because there will be light at the end of the tunnel which is worth waiting for. Every entrepreneur has had a slip or a failure in one way or another. The important thing to remember is that it is ok to fail as long as you take it as learning lesson and persevere.

Q: In today’s fast changing business environment, how do you stay abreast of things?

I have a desire to always make a change for the better, be that in business or my personal life. I’m always reading and listening to different initiatives and ideas on how to improve and stay one step ahead.

Q: What is your “Why”? In one sentence, why do you get up in the morning?

I get up each day to see my beautiful son smiling at me which gives me a whole new outlook on my day!

Q: In one sentence, what is the most important thing one has to do to be a great leader?

Take on advice and don’t be afraid to learn from others. Industry professionals are often very willing to give advice and to take it in return. This give and take of information is how industries evolve and how leaders can ensure the sustainability of both their business and their work force.

It is important for us to provide our community with as much information as possible, so that they can make informed decisions. As a result, we have a loyal customer base which is unbelievably important to the brand. Our customers not only provide us with their business, but they also help us shape the impact we have on the environment and the fashion industry. By supporting us, they are supporting the eco-friendly and sustainable fashion movement that can be felt across the industry.

Q: In one sentence, describe a positive way that technology can make the world a better place?

Technology is an incredible tool that has allowed a global world to communicate, expediting decisions and opening up platforms to learn both on a personal and a business level. In particular, I feel the growth of technology is crucial in our battle against climate change. It gives the masses accessible information on a daily basis which therefore plays a big role in our decision making. People are now able to weigh the information presented and do more research on any given topic all within the comfort of their own home.

Q: In one sentence, tell us something positive to motivate our readers?

Passion is the biggest driver when it comes to feeling and being motivated in both your personal and work life. Passion leads to innovation which in turns leads to great personal or professional outcomes. Follow what you love, and it will all work out for you as you already have the innate motivation to make great things happen.

Q: In one sentence, tell us how you start your day to get ready?

I start my day with a great playlist and a cup of coffee. Doing so gets me started on the right foot and adds a spark to my creativity.

Q: In one sentence, describe how you handle rejection and setback?

I use this as a tool to learn and improve. I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason. Setbacks are learning opportunities that I use to improve both myself and my products.

Q: In one sentence, describe what your hiring philosophy is?

We look for people who are passionate about the planet and keen to drive change in the fashion industry. As a brand we are very aware of the effect that we have on our environment, and as such we hire people who fall in line with our mission to reduce waste.

Q: In one sentence, describe how you keep your sanity in a competitive business environment?

For me having a daily routine with a clear schedule is the most important thing in keeping me focused and sane. Having clearly defined tasks with due dates allows me to prioritize time and resources. Without it I would be scrambling to get tasks completed on time, not to mention that the disorganization would just leave me feeling stressed at the end of the day.
